Mojave King believes Mody Maor's investment in him will pay dividends for the New Zealand Breakers in NBL25.

Mojave King looks set to be a cornerstone of Mody Maor’s new-look New Zealand side in NBL25, and the former Next Star believes the presence of a head coach who is prepared to invest in his abilities and potential will help him reach his undoubtedly high ceiling.

King spent two seasons in the NBL Next Stars program before heading to the NBA G-League Ignite. He was selected as a second-round draft pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, and spent last season playing with G-League side Indiana.

He has since returned to the NBL with the Breakers on a one-year deal, and says he believes his time with the club is shaping as the perfect situation for him.

“[Mody] has a clear vision for how he wants to use me going into next season and it aligns with the things I’m trying to work on,” .

“I think it will be a really good situation for me.

“The big thing I’m trying to work on is consistency – when I’m on the floor I’m always active and affecting the game in a positive way … I’ve got this far playing free and fast, using my athleticism and shooting.

“Mody was a big part of why I decided to come to the Breakers. His vision, and the way he’s trying get the team to play this upcoming season, it sounds like everything I want to be a part of. He kind of lives basketball, and is someone who is always going to be locked in.

“I feel like that’s something a young player needs – a coach to really invest in them and push them to be better every day.”
