Scotland centre, Emma Orr, has received a two-match sanction for a dangerous tackle in Scotland’s WXV 2 match against Australia on 12 October, 2024 in South Africa.

WXV 2024 operated the simplified red card sanction trial, an initiative born from the Shape of the Game forum earlier this year aimed at simplifying rugby’s off-field disciplinary processes.

A Red Card Sanction Committee (RCSC) found that the tackle was of a high force and satisfied the definition of “foul play” under the new process. Foul play is defined as situations where a player has attempted to effect a legal rugby action but has made an error in doing so. Some examples include situations where a legal rugby action would likely have occurred but for poor timing or technique error.

The RCSC met on 13 October, 2024, and was chaired by Roger Morris (Wales), joined by former international players David Croft (Australia) and Jamie Corsi (Wales). Having considered all the available evidence, and all available camera angles, the RCSC found the offending warranted a two-match sanction for “foul play”.

This sanction was accepted by the player.

The player is therefore suspended for the following matches:

  • Bristol Bears v Saracens – 19 October, 2024
  • Sale Sharks v Bristol Bears – 26 October, 2024
